SAVANNAH, Ga., October 31, 2012 – The Georgia Historical Society is pleased to announce that Sophia Sineath, GHS Education Coordinator will be presenting a session at the 2012 Georgia Educational Technology Conference at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta on November 7, 2012.

The session, titled Opening America's Archives - Using Digitized Primary Sources to Meet Common Core, will introduce teachers to free online primary sources found in library and archival collections of the Georgia Historical Society, the Library of Congress, and other relevant repositories across the country.  It will also share best practices for the analysis of the sources. The 2012/2013 school year is the first for Georgia teachers implementing Common Core Performance Standards that focus on the application of knowledge through critical thinking, problem solving, modeling, and higher-order thinking skills. This teacher-training initiative is sponsored in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University.

“The Georgia Ed Tech conference is a great opportunity for us to meet educators from across the state and join the conversation about what Georgia teachers most need in these areas,” said Christy Crisp, GHS Director of Programs.

Ms. Sineath develops and coordinates the statewide distribution of educational resources, such as the curriculum for Today in Georgia History, for teachers, students and history professionals. She also manages training and professional development workshops for Affiliate Chapters and for teachers.
