14th A.C. Troops at Evans Farm

Year Erected: 1958

*Marker Text: Aug. 30, 1864. Federal forces, having cut the A. & W.P.R.R. at Red Oak & Fairburn, moved by several columns on various roads toward the Macon R. R., on an eight mile front; Howard's Tennessee Army on the right; the 4th & 14th A. C. of the Cumberland Army (Thomas) at center and Schofield's 23d Corps on the left.

Davis' 14th marched via Shoal Creek Ch., where Baird's div. moved to Couch's (at Riverdale) via the Marcus Long house; Morgan's & Carlin's, S.E. to Evans' farm on Camp Creek (just W. of here).

Sept. 1. From the Fayetteville rd., the 14th A. C. moved to the 2d day of battle at Jonesboro.
