Location, Hours, and What to Bring
The Georgia Historical Society’s Research Center is located in historic Hodgson Hall and is open Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Before visiting during holiday seasons or special events, researchers are encouraged to check the online calendar for closings. Researchers are required to present a valid ID (government-issued photo ID with signature) and to register at the reference desk in order to research the collection. Prior to visiting, researchers should review and complete the Patron Registration Form. This form must be renewed annually by all researchers.

What to Bring
To enhance the security of the collections and to ensure that an atmosphere fostering research is maintained in the reading room the Georgia Historical Society has restrictions on the kinds of personal items that can be brought into the reading room.
Free lockers are available to store personal property or any property deemed inappropriate for library use.
Researchers may bring:
- Personal computers
- Note paper
- Sweater or light jacket for indoor use
- Research notes
- Cell phone (ringer off)
Prohibited personal items include (but are not limited to):
- Pens and highlighters
- Backpacks, purses, and shopping bags
- Outerwear (such as raincoats and overcoats)
The Research Center staff must approve any special equipment in advance of bringing it into the reading room. Any personal materials brought to and taken from the reading room may be examined by the staff.
As a courtesy to fellow researchers, cell phone use is not permitted in the reading room. Cell phones may be used in designated areas.
