Today in Georgia History Receives Two Emmy Nominations
Atlanta, Ga., May 21, 2013 – The Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced that it has nominated Today in Georgia History for two regional Emmy awards. The nominations are for writer Dr. Stan Deaton, and producers Keocia Howard, Don Smith and Bruce Burkhardt in the categories of Outstanding Achievement: Television News and Program Specialty Excellence, Historic/Cultural and, Outstanding Achievement: Television Crafts Achievement Excellence, respectively. The program is a joint production of the Georgia Historical Society and Georgia Public Broadcasting. These are the first Emmy nominations for Today in Georgia History since it began airing in September 2011.
“The nomination itself is an honor because it is validation by peers in the broadcast industry that Today in Georgia History is a program of high quality and lasting value,” said Dr. Stan Deaton, Senior Historian for the Georgia Historical Society and Host of Today in Georgia History. “This is a team honor for GHS. The show’s success wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of Todd Groce and Laura García-Culler as well as the hard work of the all the people on the GHS research team who worked so diligently with the GPB staff to produce the daily segments. Georgia Public Broadcasting President & Executive Director Teya Ryan’s vision, and the outstanding work of producers Don Smith, Bruce Burckhardt, and Keocia Howard all combined to make Today in Georgia History something that we can all be proud of and that will continue to educate and inform future generations.”
The Emmys will be presented at the annual gala, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead in Atlanta, GA.
NATAS is considered the standard-bearers for excellence in the television broadcasting industry. The Southeast Chapter of NATAS is one of nineteen regional chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Nominees are chosen from programs and individuals across multiple disciplines in the Southeast region. (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Asheville, NC)
