Savannah, Ga., March 11, 2013 - The Georgia Historical Society has received a $150,000 grant from The Frances and Beverly DuBose Foundation to enhance history education by creating expanded online access to GHS collections and educational resources for teachers.
Foundation funds will be applied toward the development and implementation of an online searchable database of all of GHS's archival collection finding aids, including links to related online educational resources and over 5,500 digital objects of artifacts, portraits, and photographs held within the GHS collection. In addition, grant support will underwrite the creation of a Web Resource Guide for educators and researchers that will serve as a comprehensive theme-driven directory of publications, collections, historical markers, and existing online educational resources created by GHS.
The Frances and Beverly DuBose Foundation grant is part of GHS's $7.5 million Campaign to Share Georgia History – a capacity-enhancing initiative that will equip the Society with the physical facilities, staffing structure, and technological infrastructure necessary to continue fulfilling its educational mission in the 21st century. Among GHS's highest priorities is the creation of enhanced online access to its archival collections, publications, and programs, with a particular emphasis on equipping educators with relevant resources and tools that will help them to teach Georgia and American history to our future leaders.
