Savannah, Ga.,June 18, 2015 - The Georgia Historical Society will present the Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award in Archival Excellence to Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Inc. for their South Georgia Archives Project.

The project was born out of the need to improve The Center's capabilities for properly processing and storing artifacts and documents of historical significance to South Georgia. As a result the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation was able to construct and complete the South Georgia Archives facility and scan, store, and make available permanent records to the public.

“We are pleased to award the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation with the Roger K. Warlick Local History Achievement Award,” said W. Todd Groce, President and CEO of the Georgia Historical Society.  “Because of their efforts future generations will be able to access the records that are vital to recording our states history.”

The Warlick awards, named in honor of former Georgia Historical Society President Roger K. Warlick, are given each year by the Georgia Historical Society and serve to honor those affiliate chapters whose original projects or ideas utilize historical resources in new and interesting ways and make local history relevant and meaningful to the community, allowing audiences to make the important connections between the past and the present.

The award will be presented by Elyse Butler, Membership and Outreach Coordinator for the Georgia Historical Society, at the Annual Meeting of the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, Tuesday, June 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the Thronateeska Heritage Center, 100 West Roosevelt Avenue in Albany, GA.  A reception and tour of the archive will follow the meeting.
