Thronateeska Heritage Center Board President Bill Mitchell and Executive Director Tommy Gregors accepted the Affiliate of the Year award from GHS Marker Manager Elyse Butler.

Albany, Ga., December 6, 2018 - The Georgia Historical Society has named the Thronateeska Heritage Center as the 2018 Affiliate Chapter of the Year for their stewardship of cultural resources in Southwest Georgia. The award was presented by Elyse Butler, Marker Manager for the Georgia Historical Society, and accepted by Tommy Gregors, Thronateeska’s Executive Director.

“The Georgia Historical Society is pleased to present Thronateeska Heritage Center with the 2018 Affiliate Chapter of the Year award,” said Ms. Butler. “GHS recognizes Thronateeska's stewardship and dedication to preserving our state's historical resources and their efforts to be a good neighbor throughout the museum community in times of need.”

The Georgia Historical Society’s Affiliate Chapter program was established in 1996 to provide resources to local historical organizations and create a network of institutions with the like-minded goal of sharing Georgia’s diverse history throughout the state. Today the program has nearly 200 participating organizations. Every year, the Georgia Historical Society chooses one affiliate chapter to recognize as our Affiliate of the Year.
