Professional Development
Throughout the school year and summer, the Georgia Historical Society presents professional development opportunities for Georgia educators.
Webinars, in-person workshops, and presentations in schools and at the Georgia Historical Society Research Center bring teachers together with GHS education staff and subject matter experts. These programs explore diverse topics, with an emphasis on using primary sources from the GHS collection and other repositories in the classroom. Opportunities may offer professional development hours.
Current Opportunities
Teaching with the Georgia Historical Marker Program
Teaching with the Georgia Historical Marker Program is a self-paced teacher training course. This course will equip educators to teach Georgia and American history more effectively by utilizing the statewide Georgia Historical Marker Program, promoting the use of primary sources from GHS and the Library of Congress, and sharing successful inquiry-based classroom strategies.
Registration is now open. This free course will be available beginning in January 2024.
Dooley Distinguished Research Fellows
Dooley Distinguished Research Fellowships are intended to assist scholars in gaining access to and conducting extensive and intensive research specifically in the GHS Research Center collections. Research Fellowships will support scholars from outside the Savannah area engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral, and independent research.
GHS is currently accepting applications for research fellowships for May and June of 2024.
