A native to Isle of Hope, Herman W. Coolidge had an enduring career in law in the Savannah area. He practiced in the private sector until appointed as a judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court. Judge Coolidge was a dedicated conservationist and naturalist, compiling a book and exhibit on the wildlife of Isle of Hope and serving as one of the original members of the Historic Savannah Foundation. Alongside his tenure as treasurer and president of the Georgia Historical Society from 1961 to 1963, he was an active participant in many other local humanitarian organizations. Judge Coolidge died in 2003 and is buried in Greenwich Cemetery in Savannah.
