Alexander Rudolph Lawton

Alexander Rudolph Lawton began his law career at his father’s firm in Savannah before joining the First Georgia Infantry of the United States Volunteers during the Spanish-American War in 1898. He became the director and eventual vice-president of the Central of Georgia Railway. Lawton served as president of the Georgia Historical Society twice, from 1907-1914 and again from 1919-1920. Col. Lawton died on December 18, 1936 and is buried at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
