Charles S. Henry

A Savannah transplant via Albany, New York, Charles Seton Henry (1791-1864) was a cofounder of the Georgia Historical Society, curator, and eventually vice president and president of the institution from 1862 until his death in 1864. Judge Henry served as a chairman on the Savannah Board of Health, the commissioner of the United States Customs House, and eventually as a judge for the Confederate States of America for the state of Georgia. He died in Savannah on August 19, 1864 and is buried in Savannah’s Laurel Grove Cemetery.
