A native of Fort Valley, Georgia, Ms. White graduated from Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama, and earned a law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham. She went to work as an attorney for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District. In addition to serving on the GHS Board of Curators, she served on the boards of the Ossabaw Foundation, the Georgia Legal History Foundation, Georgia Women of Achievement, the Chatham County Historic Preservation Commission, and the University of Georgia Library Advisory Board. White received the Governor’s Award in the Humanities in 2002, and the Chief Justice Robert Bentham Community Service Award in 2000. She was the first woman to serve as GHS President.
