Dow’s Bridge

Marker Text*:  In 1821, Lorenza Dow, itinerant evangelist, stood upon the bridge near this spot, dramatically shook the dust from his feet and pronounced an anathema upon Jacksonboro. His fiery passion and religious zeal led him to vigorously attack the wicked element, who in turn, ran him out of town.

Dow asked God to bless Seaborn Goodall, in whose home he found refuge, and to spare the home which still stands 132 years later (in 1953), the only thing left of old Jacksonboro.
