*Marker Text: A two-story brick residence of the 1840s used as h'dq'rs by Maj. Gen Joseph Hooker, 20th A.C. & Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield, 23d A.C. [USA] May 18, 19, 1864.

Both Corps were ordered by Sherman to concentrate at Kingston & were enroute there in the mistaken belief that Johnston's forces had marched directly from Adairsville to Kingston.

By late afternoon, May 19, Hooker's & Schofield's corps, moving S. from McDow's, discovered Johnston's Army [CSA] at Cassville.
