Influential Savannah native John C. Frémont honored with historical marker

A historical marker honoring a Savannah native who rose to national prominence in the 1800s will be dedicated in Yamacraw Park. John C. Frémont, born here on Jan. 21, 1813, was a U.S. senator from California, the first Republican presidential candidate, a U.S. Army general during the Civil War and later governor of the Arizona territory.
