Sponsored by
This educational resource from the Georgia Historical Society is intended to provide a framework to engage educators and students to explore the First Amendment and freedom of the press as part of the Georgia History Festival.
Comprised of a unique digital resource, a primary source set, and educator guide, this classroom resource bundle helps students understand the vital role that democratic institutions play in sustaining a republican form of government. These resources will emphasize the role that a press free from governmental control has historically played in informing the American people; as a marketplace for competing ideas; and in holding government and our leaders accountable to those who have elected them.
All resource elements are aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence. This standards-based resource features the evolution of the press, profiles of significant people in Georgia’s news history, and highlights important First Amendment decisions in Georgia and American history.
