In this edition of the online research blog series, we will discuss the GHS Digital Image Catalog and the kinds of records available through it. This series explores the different platforms available to researchers through the GHS website and how to best utilize them when conducting research.

The Digital Image Catalog contains select digital images of photographs, prints, artifacts, portraits, and other collection materials. It is not a complete catalog of all collections held by GHS, but new digital images are added regularly. Below are samples of the materials researchers can view in the catalog:

The catalog can be researched by using the Keyword and Advanced Search options. The Keyword Search allows researchers to perform a general search across multiple fields. Additionally, the Advanced Search can help individuals be more specific with their search. Researchers can search for a word or phrase within a particular search category or use multiple categories to further narrow down search results.

The Digital Image Catalog also includes the Random Images feature. This is a great way to just browse GHS’ collections by displaying a random assortment of images from the records online. Click the thumbnail to view a larger version of the image.
